In Memory Of:
J. Arthur Thompson was born April 17, 1899, on the family farm in Fremont Township, Moody County, South Dakota, the son of Isaac and Sophia (Jensen) Thompson. He died Friday, April 21, 1989, at the Brookings Hospital at the age of 90 years and 4 days.
Arthur was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended rural McCurdy School in Fremont Township. He was married to Mae Elverud June 26, 1929, at rural Volga, South Dakota, in the home of Tom Elverud. After their marriage they farmed south of Volga until 1936 and then moved to the farm in Fremont Township of Moody County. Arthur retired in 1962 and they continued to live on the farm. Mae died March 11, 1977, at their home in Fremont township.
Arthur was a member of Midway Lutheran Church and the Lake Campbell Sportsman's Club.
Arthur married Viola Hummel in January 1978 in Iowa.
Arthur is survived by his wife Viola of Cushing, Iowa; fours sons: Dale and his wife Barb of Colman, Maynard and his wife Dorothy of Colman, Wayne and his wife Lois wife Dorothy of Colman, Wayne and is wife Lois of Colman, and Verle and his wife Audrey of Elkton, South Dakota; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one step-daughter, Beverly Stoneking of Cushing, and one step-son, Wayne Nielsen of Council Bluffs, Iowa.
