Helen Mary Van Belle, 95 years, of Erie, MI, died Friday, August 16, 2002, in her home. The proprietor of the Mayfair Inn for 25 years, she farmed with her husband on Sterns Road for many years. The daughter of Cyril and Flavie (Versavel) Doom, she was born November 22, 1906, in Marshall, Minnesota. She married Germain Joseph Van Belle September 25, 1928, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. They made their home in Monroe County since 1930. He preceded her in death December 12, 1983. Helen was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Erie, Luna Pier Senior Citizens and Frenchtown Senior Citizens.

She is survived by her loving daughters, Bernice (Roland) Jurgenson of Temperance, Elsie (Gerald) Langenderfer of Swanton, OH, Irene (John) Cousino of Erie, MI; a half sister, Madeline Kuhnke of LaSalle, MI; 9 grandchildren, and 18 great grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by 5 brothers and sisters: brother, August Doom, sister, Mary McCall, half brothers, Charles and Henry Doom, and half sister, Alice O'Neal.

Private services will be held in St. Joseph's Church with interment in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Joseph's School, Erie, MI.

The family of Helen Van Belle will mourn the loss of their gentle loving mother and grandmother. During her lifetime she nurtured her family with many selfless expressions of love. Helen's last three years were enriched by the care and compassion of the staff at Frenchtown Adult Day Care. We express our appreciation to the Hospice of Northwest Ohio, especially, Terry and Julieann, also special care givers, Elaine and Marie.

Funeral services were entrusted to the Bedford Funeral Chapel, 8300 Lewis Ave., Temperance, MI.
