Obituary

Elsie Agnes Langenderfer, 78, life-long resident of Assumption, Ohio, entered peacefully through the Gates of Heaven, Wednesday morning, September 26, 2012, surrounded by her loving family, after a 15 month battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born February 14, 1934 at home in Monroe, Michigan to Germain and Helen (Doom) VanBelle. She attended Banner Oak elementary school in Erie, Michigan and Bedford High School in Bedford, Michigan. At the age of 25, she met her loving husband, Gerald Langenderfer, at a Toledo Council of Catholic Youth dance. A few months later, on September 17, 1960, they married at St. Joseph Church in Erie, Michigan. They lived in Metamora, Ohio for a short time, and later built a home in Assumption and raised their three children, Jeff, Brian and Jennice.

Elsie worked as an administrative secretary at Devilbiss Industries. She was a faithful member of Holy Trinity Catholic Parish and its Altar Rosary Society, as well as a choir member.

Elsie practically lived in her beautiful and spacious garden – tending to her homegrown flowers and vegetables. She also loved to sew and took pleasure in attending her grandchildren’s athletic and special events. She was a devoted mother and nana and the most precious thing in life to her was her family. Her many hobbies over the years include bowling, playing bunco and cards, making ceramics, attending craft shows and flea markets, and teaching her family fun words and phrases from Belgium. Her family will always cherish the memories of her making pumpkin bread, “Nana Noodles” and special Lukken cookies from Belgium. We will continue to honor her life with every day that passes.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 52 years, Gerald; son, Jeff (Carol) Langenderfer and their children, Kelsie, Alysa, and CJ; son, Brian (Stacy) Langenderfer and their son, Collin; daughter, Jennice (Dan) Oberle and their children, Sean, Meghan, and Justin. Also surviving are Elsie’s sisters, Bernice Jurgenson and Irene (John) Cousino; and several nieces and nephews.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, Germain and Helen, and brother-in-law, Roland Jurgenson.

Family and friends will receive guests Friday, September 28th from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Weigel Funeral Home, 413 E. Main St. in Metamora, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday, September 29th from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Assumption, where a Mass of Resurrection will begin at 11:00 a.m., with Fr. Ron Schock officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Assumption.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Holy Trinity School, or Hospice of Northwest Ohio.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Northwest Ohio, the Hickman Cancer Center, and all of our family and friends for their support during this difficult time.
