She was born in Sneedville, having lived in Hawkins County most of her life. She was retired from Sullivan County School System as a cook. She was a member of Grassy Spring Baptist Church, Eidson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Harvey Amyx, her second husband, Thomas Burns, three daughters, Elsie Short, Jean Amyx, and Mary Ellen Amyx, a son, Fred Amyx, a son-in-law, Bascom Price, and six grandchildren.
She is survived by five daughters, Evelyn Price, Rogersville, Mrs. Worley (Lucille) Helton, Rogersville, Ruth Amyx, Blountville, Bonnie Thomas, Bristol, VA, Mrs. Cleve (Betty) Doran, Blountville, a son, Kenneth Amyx, and wife Sheri, Blountville, a daughter-in-law, Fodell Amyx, Eidson, a son-in-law, Will Short, 23 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 27, 1998, at Grassy Spring Baptist Church, Eidson, with Revs. Norman Sauceman and Charles Lawson officiating. Burial followed at Price's Cemetery, Eidson. Pallbearers were grandsons.
Arrangements were under direction of Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Church Hill.
