J.R. Sharp

Funeral for John Robert "J.R." Sharp, 71, of Decatur will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Brown Service Funeral Home with the Rev. Brooks Barkley and Rev. Matt Nail officiating.

Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Sharp died Thursday at Decatur General Hospital. He was born March 30, 1922, in Decatur and was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 57 years, Rising Sun Masonic Lodge No. 29 and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a U.S. Navy veteran from World War II and retired as a lieutenant from the Decatur Fire Decpartment after 28 years of service.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Hensley Sharp; two sons, Robert Allen Sharp of Birmingham and Tommy Sharp of Decatur; three daughters, Barbara Carpenter, Rebecca Hokett and Susan Kennedy, all of Decatur; one brother, Ralph Sharp of Decatur; one sister, Betty Ruth Carroll of Ashland, Miss.; and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Harold Holland, Leo Terry, R.C. Wilson, Tom Ford, Jackie Holmes and Willie Sullivan.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Decatur Fire Department and Masonic Lodge No. 29.
