Myrtis was born at Liberty, Waldo County, Maine, the daughter of William Thomas and Ida May (Pierce) Oxton. She was married twice, to Amos Paul La Mountain on October 7, 1911, with whom she had three children; and to Herbert Preston, on July 25, 1940. Both her marriages were at Springfield, where she lived until her death in 1947.
