Ida May was the third of ten children born to Joel Chase and Abigail (Grant) Pierce. She was raised in Waldo County, Maine, where she married William Thomas Oxton in July, 1885. She and William had four children, all of whom were born in Maine: Harry Edward, in 1886; Nellie May, in 1887; Myrtis Canium Blossom, in 1889; and Olive Hannah Hill, in 1890. Harry and Nellie were born at Montville, while Myrtis and Olive were born at Liberty.
By 1898, Ida had moved to Springfield, Massachusetts, where she and William were divorced. Her daughter, Olive, came to Springfield with her while Nellie and Myrtis followed her from Maine to Springfield a few years later.
Ida remained in Springfield until her death.
