Volney Ornduff was born in 1848, the first child of John Ornduff and Mary Willoughby to be born in Jefferson County, IA. He served in the Civil War and received a pension for the lost of loss 2 fingers left hand.
He married Elizabeth Wilson (1854-1913).
In the 1880 Federal Census he is living in Pleasant Twp, Wapello County with his wife, Elizabeth, and six children. He is a farmer. Children with them in 1880 were: John W. (8), Frederick Eustis (5), Burton (4), Dolly (1), Made and Margaret. (twins, age 5 months on 1880 census.)

FUNERAL OF V. ORNDUFF
Services Conducted at Family Home Near Batavia Saturday

On Saturday afternoon the funeral services over the remains of the late Volney Ornduff were conducted. Mr. Ornduff's death occurred Wednesday, February 18, after a severe illness, at his home three miles northwest of Batavia. The service was conducted by Elder W.C. Smith of Bladensburg and the remains were laid to rest in the Batavia cemetery. The pall bearers were all old soldiers, three of them, those named first in the following list being members of Mr. Ornduff's old regiment, the Third Iowa cavalry. They were: Marion Whitmore, Joseph Alverson, Henry Pickerell, Luther Shaw, John Seeley, and Jerome Woodruff.

WIFE AND CHILDREN SURVIVE
Mr. Ornduff is survived by his wife and ten children. The children are: John W., of Bladensburg, Frederick E., of Batavia; Mrs. Dena Holland, Zula, O.T.; Mrs. Zora Elder of Good Hope, Ill.; Burt, Sylvester, Guy, Anna, Nellie and Effie, all of whom reside at the family home.
