Fern S. Flanagan
Helena--Fern Spicher Flanagan, 79, retired central Montana teacher, died Sunday at her home of natural causes. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Plymouth Congregational church in Helena, with cremation following.
Flanagan was born Nov. 21, 1914, in Hingham, and graduated from the University of Montana in 1936.
She taught at Cascade High School from 1936 to 1941, when she married John Flanagan of Cascade and they moved to Windham. She taught there and at Hobson and Stanford. They moved to Helena in 1963, where she taught until her retirement in 1975. Her husband died in 1965.
She was honored as Montana teacher of the year in 1975. She was active in the Republican Party and was a member of the Plymouth Congregational church.
Surviving are a daughter, Jonni Fischer of Denver; a son, William P. Flanagan of Helena; a brother, Richard Spicher of Whitefish; and one granddaughter.
