Mary was the daughter of Vincent Story and his first wife, Jane Ausman, who were married 29 June 1818 in Maury County, Tennessee. The family, including Vincent's parents James and Hannah (Self) Story, three of his brothers: Parish Garner, William, and Porter; and three sisters: Margaret Rousey, Nancy and Elizabeth, had moved to Morgan County, Illinois by the time Mary was born. Her grandfather James died soon after they arrived, and Vincent's family continued living with his mother and younger siblings. Jane Story died, and Vincent married the second of his five wives in 1845.

Mary was married to John R. Sink 27 March 1848 in Morgan County. They settled a few miles south of the rest of the family in Greene County. There, they had 13 children: John Vincent, husband of Mary R. Rousey; George, married to Henrietta S. Overby; James, whose wife was Martha Louise Rimbey; Lydia Ann and Nancy, who both died as young children and are buried in this cemetery; Sarah J.; Josephine; Charles; Martha; Louise; Henry A.; Ida E.; and Eugene.

No stone has been found for Mary, but family records indicate she was buried here with her young daughters.
