Mrs. Alice Jane Battershell. 88, who had resided in Alliance vicinity 8 years and leaves 85 survivors, died at 7:07 a.m. Wednesday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie Emerly, five miles northwest of Alliance.

She suffered a fractured right hip in a fall 14 months ago and died from complications. A native of Hopedale, she lived for many years on the Battershell homestead, which is now the Roy G. Battershell Turkey Farm on the North Rockhill Ave. Ext. Her husband, William, died in March, 1920.

Mrs. Battershell was the oldest member of Lexington Grange, a member of the Bolton Methodist Church and was a charter member of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the church.

She is survived by five sons, Philip V., Walter W., Roy G., and Charles W., of Alliance and Carr A. of Cuyahoga Falls; two other daughters, Mrs. Ora Haas of Alliance R. D. 4 and Mrs. Opal McGirr of Chicago and 27 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren. Two daughters and a son preceded her in death.
