MRS. SARAH M. JONES

Sarah M. Norris was born in Clark county, Indiana, August 20th, 1828. She was the daughter of John and Elizabeth Norris and was the last member of the family.

She was married to John L. Jones, September 7th, 1848. Mrs. Jones was born, grew to womanhood and was married on the same farm.

To her family were born nine children, two dying in infancy. The living children are Marion N. and John Thomas, both of Goodland, Kansas; H. E., of Kearney, Nebr.; Mrs. Kate Churchill, Mrs. Anna Bell, and Harry T., all of Lebanon, Kansas. The oldest daughter, Sarah E. Shimp, of Chariton, Iowa, died January 16th, 1894.

Mr. and Mrs. Jones moved from Clark county, Indiana to Illinois, where they lived two years, and moved from there to Lucas county, Iowa. Mr. Jones was a soldier in the Union army for three years, being a member of Co. E, 34th Reg., Iowa Volunteers. He died January 24th, 1894, at Chariton.

Mrs. Jones' home was in Chariton, where she had lived for nearly sixty years, and where she had many friends. She died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Churchill, in Lebanon, Kansas, January 10th, 1917. She leaves six children, twenty-eight grandchildren, forty-nine great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

The body was brought to Chariton, where funeral services were held on Sunday, January 14th, at 11 o'clock, in the Christian church, of which she was a charter member, Rev. W. J. Gillmore conducting the services, after which she was laid to rest in our beautiful cemetery.

When she awakes it will be to know Him, whose name she honored above every name, a member of His church, with no creed but His book.
