They had two children, James (b. 1872) and Nathaniel (b. 1875), while still in Flag Springs, then embarked on a covered wagon trip to Colorado. They had six more children; Myrtle b. 1878, Arthur b. 1880, Wallace b. 1883, Claude b. 1885, Beulah b. 1888, Carl b. 1891.
Samuel and Delphia owned and operated Walnut Grove, which had originally been the Sanitarium for Tuberculosis sufferers. Samuel gave guided tours of the rooms.
Samuel helped build the Hygiene Church, which was originally used by the "Dunkards". He was also the secretary of the Hygiene Cemetery.
Note: The 60th Anniversary celebration was actually held one year early. Samuel died before their 60th anniversary.
