Asa was the son of Josiah Baucom and Patsy Sally Tolson.
Note: The name spelled BAUCUM or BAUCOM appears on several family records in Anson Co. N.C. Asa's records have his name as Baucum as does an 1858 Land Grant deed in Alabama spelling the name Baucum. All descendants of Asa spell their name Baucum.
Asa married Elizabeth Pistole Jan. 1820 in Anson Co. N.C.(source: Robertson Pistole Family Bible)Asa was the third son of Josiah & lived near Parkers Store on Richardson Creek.
He relocated his family from Anson Co. N.C. to Choctaw Co. Alabama about 1840. Last records found for Asa was 1858 land grant in Choctaw Co. Alabama. Both Asa and his wife are believed to be buried in Choctaw County Alabama. Asa's son James and grandson William David moved to Newton County, Mississippi in the 1870's. Their descendants have since spread into the surrounding counties and beyond.
