Hazel Kathleen Starnes Benfield, 93, of Mooresville, died Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2005 at Magnolia Gardens in Spencer. Born Sept. 7, 1912, in Iredell County, she was a daughter of the late Luther and Lacie Rogers Starnes. Mrs. Benfield was retired from Burlington Industries-Cascade Plant in Mooresville, having 50 years of service. She was a member of Broad Street United Methodist Church in Mooresville.

Mrs. Benfield was married to Offie Simeon Benfield, who preceded her in death. A son, Joel Young Benfield, brothers, Marvin, George and Robert Benfield, and sisters, Della Kennerly and Peg Julian, also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her children, Charles M. “Mickey” Benfield of Troutman, Offie S. “June” Benfield, Jr. of Mooresville, Phyllis Harrison of Burlington and Lynda Fries of Mooresville; sisters, Jeanette Atwell and Polly Parker, both of Mooresville; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13 at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Mooresville with Rev. Mike A. Macdonald officiating. Burial will follow at Willow Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30-8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12 at CavinCook Funeral Home in Mooresville.
