Charlotte Observer [article interviewing Margaret White Moore]

Mooresville: "Those who knew John Moore in the early years of this century declared he would never reach manhood. They said the adventurous youth would be kicked to death by one of the horses he rode helter skelter across Iredell County countryside.

Later in pre super highway 1927, Moore accepted a dare and piloted his Chrysler touring car from Atlanta to Salisbury beating the time of the Southern Crescent Lmtd, the ultimate in railway travel at the time. Folks said Moore was bound to meet an untimely end in that speed contraption.

Later still, when Moore was among the first in the area to take to the air, people said his barnstorming would send him crashing to the earth.

Moore survived it all and died of a heart attack in 1974 at age 74..."
