MERKEL, June 16--(Special to The News)--Relatives here of J. N. (Nim) Teaff, 76, retired Taylor county farmer and resident of Merkel, have been notified of his death Friday morning at 11:20 o'clock at Lockhart, where he was visiting at the home of a brother-in-law, John Hurst.

His death followed an illness of a week from pneumonia, contracted while on the visit. With him at the time of his death were his wife, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mayfield and Mrs. W. B. Stevens of Merkel. The Mayfields had accompanied Mr. Teaff and his wife to Lockhart about two weeks ago.

The body will arrive in Merkel Saturday afternoon at 2:15 o'clock, by train, and burial rites will be conducted from the First Baptist church at 4 o'clock. Rev. Ira L. Parrack, Chillicothe Baptist pastor, and Rev. C. R. Joiner, Merkel pastor, will conduct the service. Burial will be in the Rose Hill cemetery.

He is survived by his wife and five daughters, Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Mayfield and Mrs. Earl Lassiter of Merkel; Mrs. General Jones of Buffalo Gap; and Mrs. Thomas Bearden of Fort Worth. Other survivors are a brother, Ben Teaff of Troy; and a sister, Mrs. Lee Lewalen of Troy.

Mr. Teaff was born in Bell county in 1857 and moved to Taylor county in 1903. Retiring from farming 13 years ago, he established his residence at Merkel.

His wife, who survives him, was Miss Henrietta Jones of Troy. The two were married in Bell county 54 years ago.
