Gertrude C. Barczak, 103, St. Joseph, died Monday, March 29, 2010, at a local health care center.
Mrs. Barczak was born January 15, 1907, in St. Joseph, the daughter of Andrew and Sophia (Borkowski) Hoppe.
She married Joseph A. Barczak, who preceded her in death on May 16, 1971.
She was a mail and delivery clerk for Hirsch's and Plymouth Department Stores for many years and a homemaker.
Mrs. Barczak was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church, St. Ann's Altar Society, and Ladies of Charity.
She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth J. Hagele; her parents; her sisters, Eunice Bangerter and Sophia Lyon; and her brothers, Robert L. Hoppe and Rev. S. J. Hoppe.
Survivors: her son, John J. Barczak, St. Joseph; a brother, Herman J. Hoppe, Sun City, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Veann Leach, Calee Putnam, Terri Kendrew, and Elrie Quarantiello; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial: 1 p.m. Thursday, St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment: Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Ladies of Charity Rosary: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Parish Rosary: 6 p.m. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
