William Jackson Edwards was born July 13, 1841, in Middle Tennessee, near Lebanon, but, when he was yet a small boy his parents moved near Marion, Ill., where he grew to manhood. During the Civil War he served in the Union Army in the Illinois troops.
Mr. Edwards and family moved to this county in 1894, and except for about one year which he spent at a sawmill near here, he resided in Caruthersville all that time, and had made many friends here.
He is survived by a wife to whom he was recently married, and Sam H., John and Mrs. O.J. Mattews, of this city; Will Edwards and Mrs. Jane LaShot of Blytheville, Ark.; and Mrs. Ellen Gibson of Memphis, Tenn. There are also thirty grandchildren and eighteen great-grand children.
"Uncle Jack" as he was generally called, had been a member of the Methodist church for several years.
We extend our sincere sympathy to all the bereaved relatives.
