Harvey S. Bordley, 68, of Main Street, Fairton, died Sunday morning at the Veteran's Hospital in Elsmere, Del., where he had been a patient the past week. He had been in failing health the past year and seriously ill the past two months.
Born in Carmel, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Mary Durham Bordley, and was the husband of Dorothea Bordley. He had resided at his present address the past two years and had been an area resident all his life.
Mr. Bordley was a truck driver for C. Harrell Inc. of Elmer the past 10 years and prior to that had been with Cross Transportation for 31 years. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army 8386h Anti Aircraft Artillery Battalion attaining the rank of Staff Sgt. He was a pilot and owned his own plane.
He was a lifetime member of the Disabled Vets No. 83, American Legion Post No. 82 of Millville, and a member of the Fairfield Presbyterian Church and a deacon of the church.
In addition to his wife, surviving are three daughters, Sandra Bordley of Bridgeton, Mary Hollingshead, Trudy Gray, both of Millville; a son, Harry B. Batten of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Fairfield Presbyterian Church, Main Street, Fairton with the Rev. Allan Story officiating.
Interment will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Millville.
Friends will be received Tuesday after 7 p.m. at the Russell C. Sheppard Funeral Home, 40 East Ave., Bridgeton.
