BLANCHE BARRETT HOWELL, 88, of Collierville, retired AT&T operator, died of respiratory failure Sunday at Methodist Hospital Germantown. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Memorial Park Funeral Home with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America. She leaves a daughter, Geraldine Bennett of Collierville; a son, Bill F. Reed of Atlanta; two sisters, Joann Pittman and Beverly Williams, both of Jackson, Miss.; a brother, Robert Allen Barrett of Natchez, Miss., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, any memorials be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or a charity of the donor's choice. (Published in The Commercial Appeal 2/9/1999)
