Florence was a graduate of Rhodes High School class of 1932. She was a nurse at the Marshalltown Hospital. She was a member of the Rhodes United Methodist Church. She was active as a president of the first Women's Society of Christian Service after the uniting of the two Methodist Churches. She served four terms. She also had been a Sunday School Superintendent and teacher of both children and adult classes and chairman of the official board.
She enjoyed art, playing the organ, singing and sewing.
