FRANCIS DUNN, PIONEER DIES
Francis B. Dunn, one of Lane County's earliest pioneers, died at his home at 1677 Franklin Blvd. on Sunday. Born June 22, 1857 at Elizabeth Town, Ill. Mr. Dunn came to Lane County in 1875, lived here for several years, and later moved to a homestead in Farmington, Wash. In 1900 he returned to Eugene.
Until his retirement shortly after the first world war, Mr. Dunn operated and owned the Dunn Bakery in Eugene. The bakery was located in various places on Willamette Street and Broadway during these years.
Francis Dunn was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Berian [Barzilla] C. Dunn. His parents owned a farm near the Dunn School, which was named after his father. The original home is still standing.
In 1881, Mr. Dunn was married to Mary M. Masterson at Middleton, Idaho. He was a member of the Methodist Church and the Lane County Pioneer Association.
Surviving are his widow and the following children: Ina May Price, Eugene, A. Clare Dunn, Grants Pass, Grace Dunn, Bakersfield, Calf., Marguerite Houghton, Eugene, F. Ray Dunn, Portland, Fred C. Dunn, Astoria; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a brother, Arthur G. Dunn, of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Sophia Wheeler, and Mabel G. Skeeles, both of Los Angeles. A daughter, Ruby Jane Lovell, died in January, 1945.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Poole-Larsen Mortuary, with the Rev. Hugh McCallum officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park.
