George served his country during WWI and WWII as a member of the U.S. Navy attaining the rank of Seaman 1st Class.
He was united in marriage to Ferne "Inda" Schliemann on Oct. 27, 1934. The couple made their home in various communities including Valley Springs, Sioux Falls, and Gustine, CA, returning to Hartford, SD in 1979. Throughout the years, George was self-employed as a farmer and carpenter.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Beaver Valley Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Hartford Historical Society, Hartford Senior Citizens, Hartford American Legion Post, and a Past Commander of Charles Doman American Legion Post #131 at Valley Springs.
