Duane Mickle, 85, Erie, died Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Illini Hospital, Silvis.

Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at Gibson Funeral Home, Erie. Burial is in Fenton Cemetery.

Visitation is 3 to 5 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Self Help Enterprises, Sterling.

Duane, who was known affectionately by his friends as Moose, was born Oct. 17, 1915, in Fenton, the son of Vern and Elna Jacobsen Mickle. He attended Erie schools and was married to Darlene Pratt Feb. 2, 1942, in Kahoka, Mo.

He resided in the Erie vicinity his entire life. He was a WWII veteran of the European Theater. He was employed by Erie Lumber and Grain for 26 years, retiring Dec. 31, 1981.

Mr. Mickle was an avid gardener being known for his beefy, tasty tomatoes. He enjoyed reading Western novels, baking scrumptious rolls, loved to cook and played pool and cards.

Survivors include his wife; sisters and brother-in-law, Joy and Donald Ferguson, Fenton, and Phyllis Miller, Mount Carroll; sisters-in-law, Gladys Stubbs and Grace Mickle; brother-in-law, William Pratt II; and many nieces and nephews.
