Robert Ashworth October 16, 1853 to January 2, 1916
Robert Ashworth was born in Greenbush, Iowa, October 16, 1853. There he spent his early childhood. From there, with his parents, moved to Springfield, Iowa, where he received his education. He was united in marriage in 1877 to Miss Caroline Welch. He and wife then moved to Kansas, near Jewell, where he worked as a station agent 12 years on the Rock Island Railroad. Then he lived on a farm for a number of years and from there moved to Oregon in 1889, settling in the Rogue River Valley, and bought a farm near Central Point, and lived there until six years ago. From there he moved to Central Point and lived here about two years when his wife died.
Mr. Ashworth spent the remaining years of his life in this place.
Truly, the deceased was a man among men in every sense the word implies. He possessed a true conception of what constitutes honor and principle in man and he was honorable in every transaction. He was kind and affectionate in his home. Cheerful and hopeful under adverse circumstances. He suffered much and complained little. His friends, wherever he lived, were legion.
Funeral services were held at his late residence Tuesday, at 2:30 p.m. Conducted by Reverend John C. Stille and interment was in Central Point Cemetery. A large number attended and the floral offerings were beautiful.
He leaves to mourn in death one daughter Mrs Agnes Sanderson of this city.
Six children preceded the father to the home beyond.
He is survived by two brothers and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Knarr, and Jasper and Lee Ashworth.
