James Porter Lynch Sr., 90, of Wendell, passed away Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at the V.A. Hospital in Boise, Idaho.
Jim was born on December 16, 1915 in Ethel, Missouri, to Erskine L. and Icie Ann Burns Lynch. He had two sisters and two brothers. The family moved to Buhl, Idaho in 1929. Jim grew up on a farm and later moved into town. He attended Buhl Schools and also was a lifeguard at the Buhl swimming pool. After school, he joined the Navy in September 1937. He said it was a very enjoyable part of his life. While in the Navy Jim traveled to Ecuador, Panama Canal, Cube, Haiti, Virgin Islands, the tip of Africa, and to Hawaii five times.
On August 28, 1943, he married Dorothy Pearl Holmes in Elko, Nevada. They were married 60 years; Dorothy passed on July 27, 2003. They lived in Buhl, Wendell, and Washington State. While in Washington, Jim drove a logging truck. Jim has worked for Andy and Bob's Motor as a Service Manager and was a Volunteer Fireman for many years in Buhl. He also worked for Sego Milk and Kirkham Auto Parts. In 1964 they moved to Wendell, worked for Zitlau Motors as a mechanic until he retired. Jim enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by his son, James P. Lynch Jr. (Donna) of Buhl; two daughters, Judy (Gary) Olsen of Twin Falls and Vickie (Randy) Martin of Shelley, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-granddaughters. His wife, Dorothy; his parents; two brothers and two sisters precede him in death.
