Peter Neal Expires at His Home on South Deer Creek.
One of the oldest of Oregon's hardy pioneers passed into the great beyond Monday afternoon, Dec. 22, 1902, at 2 o'clock, when Peter Neal breathed his last at the Thos. Boggess place on South Deer creek. He was born in Virginia 88 years ago and with his wife crossed the plains into Oregon in 1844, taking up their home four miles from Stayton, Marion county. Later they moved to Hood River, Wasco county, and in 1888 removed to Douglas county, where they took up their residence on the Gililland place on South Deer creek. A few years later found them located on the Howe place near Roseburg, and finally they took up their residence on the Thomas Boggess place, where the faithful helpmate of Mr. Neal answered the inevitable summons some years ago. Mr. Neal's remains will be interred by her side in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Roseburg Wednesday afternoon. Funeral services preceding the burial will be held at the Boggess place in the morning at 9 o'clock.
Two sons and several grandchildren survive. The former are Jerome B. Neal, of deer creek, and another son at Hood River.
