William Finley (Fin) Eastman, Jr. was the son of William Finley (Finn) Eastman, Sr. and Annie Laura Mayfield Fitzgerald Eastman. They married in Mississippi about 1912. Fin had one whole sister Birdie Jean. His father had been previously married to Julia Ann Waddle and that couple had 10 children. That family lived in Indiana. Fin's mother Annie Laura Mayfield had been previously married to Thomas Alexander (Tom) Fitzgerald and they had six children, four of whom lived to adulthood. They were David Ellis Fitzgerald, Lucinda, Annie Laurie and Ada Kate Fitzgerald. Fin and Birdie were very close to their Fitzgerald half siblings. Fin married Rachel Green Maddox 5 Dec 1935 in Jones County, MS. They had 3 sons, William Larry, Gordon Ellis and Anthony Finley (Tony).
Fin was career military. He was called "Sarge".
He spent about two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC's) during the depression years and worked in the Mississippi Gulf Coast area. He spent five years in Mississippi National Guard Company I, 3rd Battalion, 155th Infantry and was called into active duty by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, about 1940. He later enlisted in the US Army where he served 23 years. He was a Master Sergeant in the 14th Armored Division, Tank Battallion. In 1955 he was sent to Germany with the occupation forces. He also served thirteen months in Korea during the Korean War. At one time he was Regular Army attached to the Mississippi National Guard at Key Field in Meridian, MS where he set up a tank training program.
After retirement from the U. S. Army, Fin and Rachel made their home in Meridian, MS.
