He was called "Buddy" by family. He worker as a machinist at saw mills. He lost all fingers on his right hand in an accident while working at Allison Lumber Co. in Bellamy, Sumter County, AL.
He married Carrie Wallace on 17 Sept 1920 at Ellisville, Jones County, MS. They had three children, David Wallace, Eleanor Hale and Jesse Thomas Fitzgerald. After retirement, he and and Carrie moved to her home town of Richton,Perry County, MS.

Funeral services for David E. Fitzgerald, 70, Richton, were held Saturday, 3 PM from the First Baptist Church in Richton with The Rev. Marcus Finch officiating. Burial was in Sunset Cemetery.
Fitzgerald died Thursday night in the Mobile Infirmary.
He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Carrie Fitzgerald, Richton; two sons David W. Fitzgerald, Bellamy, Ala;
Tom Fitzgerald, Mobile, Ala; one daughter Mrs. Eleanor F. Conyers, Mobile, Ala.; one brother W. F. Eastman; four sisters Mrs. Lucinda Beard, Marietta, GA; Mrs. Kate Ford, Toomsuba; Mrs. Annie Speed, Laurel and Mrs. Birdie Carr, Jackson and four grandchildren.
Jones Funeral Home in Richton was in charge of
arrangments.
