AMERICUS, Ga., July 8.--Funeral services were held at Ellaville Friday for George Reuben Slappey, 21, who died Thursday at Americus following a brief illness. Interment was in Ellaville cemetery. Ely Horne, G. A. Tye, Jr., Douglas Tye, J. L. Wood, Tom Matthews and Ed Lynn Bridges acted as pallbearers. The burial service was read by Rev. Loy Warwick, pastor of Americus First Methodist Church.
Young Slappey, who was well known and popular here, attended a barbecue July 4th at a pleasure resort near Americus and was taken violently ill immediately following his return to his home in this city. He was a son of Mrs. Stella Slappey who survives him, together with four brothers, Thomas R. Slappey and William J. Slappey, and Arthur Slappey and Lucien Slappey, all of this city, besides a large family connection.
