Samuel Megginson, Jr. migrated from Virginia to North Carolina with his family between 1785 and 1800. The 1800 and 1810 US Censuses record his father, Samuel Megginson, Sr., living in Montgomery Co., N.C. After marrying Catherine Mask of Richmond Co., N.C. in 1810, Samuel Megginson, Jr. moved to Richmond Co, N.C. An 1815 Gift Deed registered in Montgomery Co., N.C. recorded his father, Samuel Megginson, Sr., of said county, transferring chattel including furniture, hogs, cows, horses and a wagon and gear to him. Samuel, Jr.'s residence as noted in the gift deed was Richmond Co., N.C.

The 1820 and 1830 US Censuses record Samuel Megginson, Jr., his wife, Catherine (Mask) Megginson, and family still living in Richmond Co., N.C. Their children, Julia King Megginson (1823-1911) and Dudley M. Megginson, were born in 1823 and 1836, respectively, in North Carolina. Samuel and Catherine Megginson moved to Troup Co., GA between 1836, the birth year of Dudley M. Megginson, their last child born in N.C. and 1840. The 1840 US Census enumerated them living in Troup Co., GA.

The Megginsons lived in Troup Co., GA only briefly before migrating to Alabama in 1840 indicated by the birth of their son, Samuel Megginson III, being born in Alabama in 1840. They settled into the area of Sandy Creek near Penton, Chambers, Co., AL.

The 1850 US Census of Chambers Co., AL enumerated the household of 65 Y/O Samuel Megginson, Jr., born in Virginia and his 59 Y/O wife, Catherine (Mask) Megginson, born in N.C. Also in the household were their children: 25 Y/O Juliett K. (Julia King) Megginson, born in N.C.; 18 Y/O Louisa Megginson, born in N.C.; 12 Y/O Catherine Megginson, born in AL, and 10 Y/O Samuel Megginson III, born in AL. The United States 1850 agricultural records show that Samuel owned 120 acres of land there.

Samuel Megginson, Jr. died on 09 May 1853 at Milltown, Chambers Co., AL.

Catherine (Mask) Megginson's parents were Dudley Mask, Sr. (A proven Revolutionary War Soldier accepted by both the SAR and DAR) and Nancy Anne (Barr) Mask.

Samuel Megginson, Jr.'s father, Samuel Megginson, Sr., is a proven Revolutionary War Soldier accepted by both the SAR and DAR.

Samuel Megginson, Jr.'s tombstone is a great, old William "Rock" Jackson tombstone. Jackson was a 19th century folk-art stone carver of the eastern Alabama/western Georgia area.
