from Find-a-Grave contributor Mark Hayden--3 Jul 2015:

Peter H. Schamel, was for many years the driver of a stage to Baltimore, the proprietor of the line being John Emmert. Peter H. Schamel was born at Red Hill, just below Keedysville, in 1816. He passed his boyhood in that vicinity, and his home throughout life was within a radius of seven or eight miles. His wife, Mary Cartee, who lived near the Manor Church, was one of a family of twenty-six children, all of whom are now deceased, except Mrs. Susan Slowman, of Newark, O., who is over eighty years of age. Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Schamel passed together a married life of sixty-two years; she died June 30, 1901, and Mr. Schamel died February 28, 1905. Both are interred at the Manor Church, of which they were life-long members. Peter H. Schamel was a deacon of that church for forty years. Before the Civil War, he voted with the Democratic party; after that time with the Republican. The children of Mr. and Mrs. Peter H. Schamel are: Catherine, who married William Poflenberger (sic: Poffenberger), and is deceased; Margaret, who married Charles Cable. of Cabletown, Va.', Andrew, a farmer, who married Lena Wolf, and died in Iowa; Henry, of Dallas Centre, Ia., married first to Nannie Barr, afterwards to Minerva Smith; Elmer, deceased, was for many years a school teacher; and George C. Three others died in early childhood. From the History of Washington County, Maryland; published 1906.
