Bridget Manning was the daughter of Mary Shea and James Manning. Both James and Mary had been born in Tipperary, Ireland but moved to Wales after their marriage. Bridget was one of eight children. They were all born in Rhymney, Monmouthshire, Wales.
The family had most likely moved to Wales because of the availability of jobs in the mines. Two of their sons were listed on the Welsh census as "hauliers" in the iron works which was nearby.
On the 1871 Wales Census it shows them living at 28 Goshen St. in Rhymney. The 1881 Census shows them living at 4 Goshen St. The William Lawrence Byron family was also from Tipperary, Ireland and lived just a few doors down at 8 Goshen Street.
This coincidence would continue as they made their way to America where they both lived on West Union Street in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania. The family also shares a burial plot in St. Francis Cemetery. Byron on one side Manning on the other.
Bridget emigrated to the United States along with her brother, Michael, in 1883 on the Sardinian which sailed from Liverpool, England and Queenstown, Ireland. It arrived in New York Harbor on may 7, 1883.
It looks as though brother James may have remained in Wales but their mother, Mary Manning, and siblings, Mary, Katherine and Patrick followed Bridget & Michael to America in 1884. (The 1900 census states that that is the year they emigrated).
Bridget settled in Nanticoke PA where she married William Patrick Byron abt 1883 who also grew up in Rhymney, Wales. They had 10 children.
The families lived near each other on Goshen Street in Wales and on W. Union St. in Nanticoke PA.
