Robert E. "Bob" Corley, 92, of Shelbyville died Tuesday, March 16, 2010, at his home. Born Sept. 13, 1917, in Shelby County, he was the son of Chester and Alice (Herndon) Corley. He married May Rose Fischer on Dec. 27, 1938, and she preceded him in death on May 28, 1996.
Survivors include his son, Ronald Joe (wife, Jewel) Corley of New Palestine; daughters, Rose Anne (husband, Larry) Murray and Jan (husband, David) Fritz, both of Shelbyville; brothers, Carl Corley and Butch Corley, both of Shelbyville; sisters, Mary Richart of Shelbyville and Doris LaSalle of Hamtramck, Mich.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry R. Corley; brothers, George Corley, Harry Corley and Maurice Corley; sisters, Francis Taylor and Lois Anne Corley; and three grandchildren.
Mr. Corley was a lifelong resident of this area.
He had been a self-employed auctioneer and used furniture store owner. He opened a grocery store at the intersection of county road 600S and State Road 9 in 1963, obtained his auctioneers license and conducted auctions in the small block building behind the store. In 1970, he and his wife opened Corley's Bargain Corner in the cinder block buildings at the corner of South Harrison and Noble streets. He retired on Sept. 7, 1996, and closed the new and used furniture store after 26 years of operation.
Mr. Corley had attended Shelbyville High School.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Harvey Weaver officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
