Mabel "Alene" Goundry Bunting Haberkorn, daughter of John B. Goundry and Sarah E. Horner, was born August 1871 in Denton, Michigan. On June 10, 1890 she married Frank Edward Bunting, M.D. in Wayne, Michigan. After the wedding, she and Dr. Bunting settled in Mandan, North Dakota where their 2 children were born—John Goundry Bunting and Rhea Kreider Bunting. Betrayed by her "best friend" who coveted her life and her husband, sadly, her marriage dissolved in 1901 and Alene moved to New York where she became a proprietor of a millenary. Later she returned to Wayne County, Michigan. She then married Theodore A. Haberkorn on July 18, 1905 in Detroit, Michigan. This marriage also ended in divorce. At the time of Alene's death on November 9, 1928, she was living in Toledo, Ohio where she worked as a corset buyer for Lawson Brothers Company. She was interred in Soop-Pleasantville Cemetery, Belleville, Michigan on November 12, 1928.
