He grew to manhood in his native state and then came west with his brother and family and settled on a farm near Nelson, Nebraska.
When a young man he made a Christian confession and united with the United Brethren Church.
In 1895 he was united in marriage to Miss Tressa Ann Hill and to this home were born five children, four of whom survive him, Floyd having preceded him in death.
Mr. Bills came to Davenport about three years ago to make his home and has since been failing in health until death mercifully relieved him of constant suffering, Sunday afternoon at 1:45 o'clock. Mr. Bills was the last surviving member of a family of thirteen children, a brother preceded him in death just two months ago.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, Mrs. Trissa Ann Bills, his daughters, Mrs. Percy Gunn, Lewellen, Nebr.; Mrs. Chas. Johnson and Miss Edith Bills of Davenport, Nebr.; a son, Earl Bills of Lewellen; and an only niece, Mrs. Susie Farver of Hebron; seven grand children and many friends of the community.
"Let faith exalt her joyful voice
And now in triumph sing,
O, Grave, where is they victory,
And where, oh Death, thy sting?"
The funeral was held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jas. Johnson, Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A.C. Bates in charge. Interment in the Ong cemetery (sic). - Davenport Journal.
