She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Belen, Pilots Club and delivered Meals on Wheels. Hester was very active in making blankets for the University of New Mexico's Children's Hospital, Joy Junction and battered women's shelters across the county.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Hanff, and dear mother, Bertha Hanni. Hester is survived by her four loving children, Walter Hanff, Jr., Harriet Wiley and husband, Bill, Carol Hartman and husband, Bruce, and Margaret Madrid and husband, Larry; six grandchildren, Michelle and Michael Douglas, Curt and Cheryl Capps, Justin and Kailan Madrid; 12 precious great grandchildren; her very close friend, Carol Hernandez, and brother-in-law, Russell Hanff, of California. She also adopted a loving and very dear dog from the Valencia County Animal Shelter that was by her side when she passed, "Miss Penny."
All services will be held at Romero Funeral Home Chapel on Saturday, Feb. 27, beginning with a viewing at 9:30 a.m. with a funeral service to be held at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the Sunset Memorial Park in Albuquerque.
