Born near Lake City she was the daughter of the late Joseph Earl and Thelma Turner Hicks, and had been a longtime Manila resident.
Mrs. McWhirter was an avid St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan and a member of the First Baptist Church in Manila.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by an infant son Kenny McWhirter, 2 brothers, Clifford Hicks and Wesley Hicks and 1 sister Louise Hicks.

Funeral services was held in the Howard Funeral Chapel in Manila with Rev. William Piercy officiating with burial in the Manila Cemetery.
Serving as active pallbearers were Roger VanDyke, Howard Haynes, Donald Master, Aaron Master, Paul Wayne Hicks and Jimmy Hicks.
Grandchildren and great-grandchildren served as honorary pallbearers.
