John and Jincy were married 24 Sep 1835 and located in the area which is, today, the city of Lyman, and attended the Baptist Church and engaged in farming.

They had extensive land holdings, and a large number of slaves. The births of some of whom were recorded in the family Bible. They had three children of whom I am aware, namely, James Smiley (b.11 Jan 1838), Mary Amyrillus (b. 22 Jun 1845) and Margaret Ella (b. 16 Dec 1855).

When the Civil War began, John and James Smiley enlisted in Company B of the 22nd Regiment of South Carolina Volunteers, John as a Captain and James as a 1st Lieutenant. James was killed in action near Jackson, Mississippi, leaving John with no male heirs. John's breech-loading rifle has survived the years, and is in one Branch of the family. John passed away in Inman, 21 November 1889, and was laid to rest at the Wellford Cemetery.

His son-in-law, Augustus Belton Groce was the executor of the estate (File 3852), and his heirs were M. Ella Groce and Carrie C. Ballenger. When Jincy passed away, 22 December 1896, she was also laid to rest at Wellford Cemetery, and again A.B. Groce was administrator with heirs being M. Ella Groce and Carrie C. Miller, wife of L. G. Miller.

Children of John and Jincy were:
1. James Smiley Wheeler born 11 Jan 1838 died 10 Jul 1863

2. Mary Amaryllis Wheeler born 22 Jun 1845 died 31 Dec 1866 Maryland, married W. H. Ballenger.

3. Margaret Ella Wheeler born 16 Dec 1855 died 8 Sep 1920 Maryland, married Augustus Belton Groce.
