Dorothy Clinkscales, was born on May 24, 1924 and peacefully passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2010. A native of Union, SC she was a resident of Asheville for a number of years. Her mother, Alberta Hill and step father, Walter Hill preceded her in death.

"Dot" worked at JJ Newberry during her early twenties. She was the first black to serve the public at the 5 and 10 cent store doughnut and hot dog stands.

She leaves to cherish her memory a son William Clinkscales of Asheville; daughter, Reather C. Neal of Dayton, OH; six grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren; two aunts, two uncles; other relatives and friends.

Services will be held Monday at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Hart Funeral Service. Dr. C.R. Mosley will officiate, burial will be in Violet Hill Cemetery.
