Mamie Marie Ferebee GRANDY, 90, of 1008 Maple Street, Elizabeth City, NC died on Sunday, October 18, 2009 at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, Norfolk, VA. Born in Shawboro, NC, she was the daughter of the late Mitchell Simmons and Annie Lee Sears FEREBEE and was the widow of Mr. Bryan Osborne GRANDY. She was an avid gardener who loved children, friends and life. As a homemaker, she was devoted to her family and was an inspiration to her children. She had the unique ability to love each of her children as if they were her only child. Mrs. GRANDY was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and had formerly attended Poplar Branch Baptist Church. She is survived by her daughters, Margaret Ann SPENCE and husband Don of Flower Mound, TX, Betty Jean STONE and husband Raymond of Nags Head, NC, Caroline Jo WALLACE and husband Carroll of Grandy, NC, Patricia Ann DAVIS and husband Fred Allen of Elizabeth City, NC, Frances Arlene GRANDY of Elizabeth City, NC, and Mary Lee SCHWARGA and husband Gregory of Currituck, NC; sons, Paul E. GRANDY and wife Helen Ann of Harbinger, NC, Frank GRANDY and wife Judy of Yorktown, VA, Clinton J. GRANDY and his friend Adora FLATTUM of Grandy, NC, and Charles N. GRANDY and wife Donna of Poplar Branch; twenty-three grandchildren, thirty-nine great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband she was preceded in death by a son, Melvin Dallas GRANDY, and her daughter-in-law, Nettie Louise GRANDY. Funeral service was held on Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, NC, with Rev. Aaron PENDLEY officiated, burial at West Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
