The specific day and month dates I have for Julia Ann Middleton come mostly from a recent contact with one Charles Zemanek (found her death certificate) who is researching Julia's family but mostly with respect to her older sister, Asberry A H Middleton who was also born in Texas, but six weeks prior to statehood which qualifies Asberry for a marker from the Daughters of the Republic of Texas identifying her as a patriot of The Republic of Texas. Both Asberry and Julia are also descended from Lt. Col. Hugh Teare Middleton the 1st (their 2nd great-grandfather), a member of the Continental Army of the United States who fought in and was wounded at the Battle of Eutaw Springs in South Carolina which decisively ended the British hold on the southern U.S. in War of Independence. My records indicate Julia's father to have been William H Middleton - born about 1802 to 1805 in South Carolina and died in Hill County, Texas in abt. 1863. Most of what I have for her mother came from the 1850 Smith County, Texas census which has her name as Lydia (dearly need help discovering her maiden name) - also born in South Carolina. At least one other researcher believes Lydia died in 1860 but provides no documented evidence. Julia was married twice. Her first husband was named Samuel R Garland. They had four known children: Willie Hattie - memorial #58647655 (1866 - 1955), Samuel R Jr. - memorial #65578444 (1868 - 1924), Dinah Laura "Dink" - memorial #50549760 (1870 - 1946) and Joseph (born abt. 1875...listed as a step-son on 1880 census). Julia married her second husband, Friedrich Wilhelm Keng, June 4, 1877 in Lee County, Texas. Circumstantial evidence indicates Friedrich's son Charlie or Charles (possibly b. 2/16/1888 Blue Ridge, Texas) was born to Julia rather than his first wife. Charles took the name King (rather than Keng) as did several or most of his half-siblings who were Friederich's children from the earlier marriage. Julia raised at least a couple of Friederich's youngest children as well as Charles and another son by Fritz Keng, Max C King.

My name is Charles King also. Julia Ann Middleton was my Great-grandaunt, sister of my Great-grandmother Mary Ann Middleton King (no relationship to Julia's Keng/King family).
