The Wellington Leader January 16, 1936

Funeral services for Lester J. Campbell, 46, were held Monday afternoon, January 6, at 4 o'clock from the First Methodist Church.

Mr. Campbell's death came as a shock to his many friends over this county. He died Sunday morning at 4 o'clock at the result of a brain hemorrhage, which followed an accident last Monday in which he received a broken kneecap. While separating the bumpers of two automobiles Mr. Campbell was injured at the bumpers released and rebounded with enough force to throw him to the ground.

He was employed as an automobile salesman at the Collingsworth Motor Company at the time of his death. Having resided in Wellington for the past 16 years and at Hollis for 17 years previous to that time. Mr. Campbell had many friends in this section who mourn his death.

He joined the Methodist Church at the age of 14 years, and since that time has taken an active part in the affairs of the church and of the community, when his health permitted. Mr. Campbell was especially fond of singing and at the time of his death was director of the choir at the Methodist Church here. He was also honored with the position of president of his Sunday School class at the time of his death, and while at Hollis he served as superintendent of the Sunday Schools in the Methodist Church there. During the last conference year he served at lay-leader of the Methodist Church here, and at the time of his death was on the Board of Stewards in the church. He was also a member of the Woodmen of the World.

At Hollis, Mr. Campbell was in the hardware business, undertaking business, and later in the grocery business. While in the grocery business he was connected with Mr. Hollis and Mr. Tice, early Harmon County residents. When he came to Wellington he was associated with Bob Scott in the hardware and undertaking business until his health failed him.

Poor health confined him to his bed for a period of eight years, and he was in poor physical condition for 15 years. June of 1936, would have marked the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Campbell, had he lived.

Mr. Campbell was born August 22, 1889 in Arkansas, and at the time of his death was 46 years, four months and 13 days of age.

Surviving Mr. Campbell are his wife, Mrs. Laura Campbell; a daughter, Carrie Nola Campbell; a son, Lester Campbell, all of Wellington; his mother, Mrs. R. H. Crow of Haskell, Texas; a sister, Mrs. L. C. Jones of Wellington; father-in-law, C.H. Wolfe and a brother-in-law, C.A. Wolfe; three sisters-in-law, Miss Irma Wolfe of San Francisco, CA; Mrs. L.H. Gambill of Pawhuska, OK; Mrs. T.B. McQuire of Stillwater, OK. He is also survived by a large number of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.
