Linda Sue Alexander Irwin, 61, of North Vernon, formerly of Dupont, died Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 23, 1948, in La Grange, Ky., the daughter of Ray C. and Virginia A. Hamilton Alexander. She was raised in Dupont and was a 1966 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School. She had lived in North Vernon since 1973 and was employed with Dunlap & Co. in Columbus for seven years as a secretary and switchboard operator. She enjoyed selling Home Interior Products for seven years. She also enjoyed flowers, cooking, baking, decorating, her cats and all animals. She was a member of the former Middle Fork Christian Church.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Irwin, whom she married May 14, 1966; one daughter, Jennifer Irwin of Columbus; her mother, Virginia A. Hamilton Alexander of Dupont; one brother, Mike Alexander of Madison; one sister, Denise Grigsby of Kent; three nephews; and several other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, who died Aug. 8, 2006; and her grandparents, Hurley and Mary Heveline Alexander, and Rand and Clara Mae Spillman Hamilton.

The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was in Dupont Cemetery.

Linda Sue Alexander Irwin, 61, of Vernon, Indiana, formerly of Dupont, died at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, 2010, at her home.

She is survived by her husband, Robert L. "Bob" Irwin of North Vernon; her daughter, Jennifer Irwin of Columbus; her mother, Virginia A. Hamilton Alexander of Dupont; her brother and his companion, Mike Alexander and Barb Hembree of Madison; her sister and her husband, Denise and Ernie Grigsby of Kent; her nephews, Derek, Brandon and Brian; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ray C. Alexander, who died August 8, 2006; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Isaiah and Helen Adams Irwin; and her grandparents, Hurley and Mary Heveline Alexander and Rand & Clara Mae Spillman Hamilton.

Linda Sue entered this life October 23, 1948, in LaGrange, Kentucky, the daughter of Ray C. and Virginia A. Hamilton Alexander. She was raised in Dupont and was a 1966 graduate of Madison Consolidated High School in Madison.

She was united in marriage to Robert L. Irwin on May 14, 1966, at Dupont United Methodist Church.

She had resided in North Vernon since 1973 and was employed with Dunlap & Company in Columbus for seven years as a secretary and switchboard operator. She also enjoyed selling Home Interior products for seven years.

She loved flowers, decorating, her cats and all animals. A fantastic cook and baker, she was known for her homemade ice cream and cakes.

She was a member of the former Middle Fork Christian Church.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, with Elder Mike Hoard officiating. Burial will be at Dupont Cemetery. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until service time Friday.

The family requests memorials in memory of Linda to Dupont Cemetery Association or Hospice of Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
