Petra was the 8th of 12 children that were born to Knute and Betsy . She was born Sept. 3, 1879 in Nevada township, Mower Co., Minnesota which is near a small town called Lyle, which is right on the southern boarder of Minnesota. Petra moved with her family to La Center, Clark Co., Washington Territory, a small town north of Vancouver, Washington, sometime in 1888. Petra would have been 9. She moved with her family about 1889 when they move to Canby, Oregon.

Like the rest of the family she was listed as living with the family in the 1900 Census at the Harding Precinct, (Logan) Clackamas Co., farm. She was 21 and she was listed as a farm laborer. Petra seems to be the only one of the three (surviving) Tellefson girls that worked the farms.

In about 1903 Petra married Edwin G. Adams who was born Nov. 21, 1878 in Oregon. She was 24 and he was 25. In the 1910 census Edwin's occupation was listed as a machinist at an ironworks in the Dalles, Oregon. They were renting a house there and Edwin's father Portland Adams (a widower) was living with them. Sometime between July of 1911(when she sent a post card to Alma from the Dalles) and 1920 she divorced Edwin. They would have been married for over 8 years.

In the 1920 census (taken Jan 7th) Petra was listed as Petra T. Adams and was living at 327 Broadway Portland at a boarding house. Her marital status was listed as 'D' (divorced). Her occupation was listed as "Second Cook (at the) Boarding House".

Sometime after 1920 Petra married Charles N. Jones. He was born Dec. 19, 1875 in Virginia. On Sept. 12, 1918 he registered for the draft (WWI) while living in Oakland, Douglas Co., Oregon. He listed a Cordelia J. Jones as his nearest relative [this was a first wife] . His father was Lewis A. Jones and his mother was Julia Canterbury. His father died 1880, his mother would have been 73 in 1918.

At the time of the 1930 census Petra and Charles were living in Deschutes, Oregon and doing general farming. He was 55 and she was 50. One of the questions asked by the census was 'Age at 1st marriage'. For Petra 22 was listed this would have put her 1st marriage at 1901, this is close to the 1903 marriage to Edwin Adams above. For Charles his age was also listed as 22. This would have put his 1st marriage at about 1897, long before 1920. [See Introduction for information on errors and omissions]. Charles died Mar. 22, 1936 while living at Deschutes, Oregon. He was only 61.

In 1946 when her father,Chris, died Petra's address was listed as Trent, Oregon. Sometime after 1946 she must have moved in with Ben and Ama at the upper Pleasent Hill farm. Petra died Aug 16, 1958 in Eugene, Oregon she was 79.
