Robert Wallace Thomas was the third child (of nine) of Robert Wallace Thomas and Ann Eliza Kidd Thomas. He was born in a section of Warren County, KY that was then called Popular Springs.

He was first married on January 30, 1866 to Laura Jane Tolar Thomas (who was a widow of James Solon Thomas).

They had three children together:
* William Solon Thomas
*Mary Roberta Thomas Bailes
*Annie Laura Thomas Lawrence

His wife, Laura, died on November 9, 1879 in Collin County, Texas. She is buried in Mugg Cemetery there, beside her parents-in-law.

Robert evidently raised his three children as best as he could. On July 25, 1880 he married Mary Eliza Queen (that name is used in the "My Name's Thomas family history; the Colorado City Cemetery transcription uses "Mary Louise") of Collin County, Texas.

Robert W. Thomas entered the ministry of the Missionary Baptist Church about 1882. He enjoyed a very extensive ministry being a recognized leader in his day, and was beloved by all with whom he came in contact.

He moved to Baylor County, Texas in June, 1899, remaining there until 1906, at which time he removed to Colorado, Mitchell County, Texas.
