Rachel Prillaman was the daughter of John "Jack" Prillaman and Sarah Grayson. She is the namesake of her maternal grandmother Rachel Cooley Grayson. On September 2, 1826, Miss Prillaman married Joseph Dyer in Franklin County, VA.

In the mid-1830s, she migrated to Christian Co KY with her husband and children (Raleigh, Stokeley, John). Joseph Dyer died (9 Nov 1841) and is buried in Christian Co KY. Sometime after Joseph's death, Rachel and children (now a little girl Margaret has been added) came back to Franklin Co VA to be with the Prillaman family. Soon she was the owner of about 700 acres of land in Franklin Co, VA, gifted to her by her father. Upon this land she sectioned off a portion where
she and other family members are buried. The Dyer cemetery eventually grew to contain cemeteries for the King, Mullins, Ramsey and several other families. This land was later divided between three of her four children: Stokeley, John, and Margaret McCune.

ELIGIBILITY FOR MEMBERSHIP IN PATRIOTIC ORGANIZATIONS:
