Mrs. Gertrude Klein, wife of John Klein, the well known wholesale and retail furniture dealer, died suddenly last night at eleven o'clock. Last March Mrs. Klein was very seriously ill and was taken to the hospital but recovered and had been in quite good health until last night about 10:30 o'clock when she was taken critically ill. In spite of medical science she died half and hour later. Mrs. Klein was born March 4, 1840, in New Alsace, Indiana, and came to Mankato in company of her sisters in 1858, where she has lived up until the time of her death. Her maiden name was Gertrude Fitterer. on May 18, 1863, she married John Klein of this city. Seven children have been born to them, four of whom are living. George Klein and Mrs. Frank Busch of this city; Miss Gertrude Klein, now Sister M.J. Baptiste; Miss Ida Klein, now Sister Mary Gertrude. The deceased children are Mrs. L.S. Lamm and two who died in infancy, Anna and John Klein. Mrs. Klein has also a brother living near this city, Theodore Fitterer, a sister, Mrs. A. Dietmann, of Denver, Colo., two sisters in convents at New York and New Orleans, and one sister, Mrs. H.B. Kaufer, of Red Lake Falls who died a few years ago. Mrs. Klein was a member of the Ladies Soladity and of the St. Elizabeth Relief Society, connected with the St. Peter and St. Paul's Catholic Church and was greatly interested in all of the charitable organizations. She was a most excellent woman, a devoted wife and mother, a kind neighbor and friend. Her sudden summons has proved a great shock to the members of her family and to their many friends.
