Father is John George Heidt, I, Salzburger who came to Georgia Colony in 1749. Served in U.S. Army, enlisted in 1794.

Abiel's name sometimes is shown as "Abel" But it has been verified as "Abiel" on many deed and census records as well as family records and other records from the county and state. Abiel and Lydia's children represent a HUGE gap in the Heidt family line, because the only census which shows all or most of his children, numbering 12, is an 1820 census which only shows the name of head of household, all others are just shown by gender and age range. There are no census, state, county, church or family records, or estate/will document found as of yet to help establish the names of ten of the 12 children. Two of their children have been identified to this point. Matthew Heidt, b.1790, the year after Abiel and Lydia married, is the first of their children. Christian Heidt is believed to be their 9th child, best as we can tell with census age ranges. The 12 known children of Abiel and Lydia Heidt, and their genders and age ranges are listed below. ANY help in locating any church or estate records about these other ten children would be greatly appreciated.

We have verified that there was a yellow fever epidemic that started around August of 1820 in Savannah, GA and spread very quickly, including into Effingham County, just after the 1820 census, so this epidemic could well have killed these ten children, leaving Matthew and Christian Heidt, as the only living children of Abiel and Lydia Heidt after the 1820 epidemic. It is documented that these epidemics were known to wipe out entire families of a dozen or more in a year, but it is impossible to verify this. At this point, there is no documentation indicating if these other ten children died in a very short time from a yellow fever epidemic, or a fire or flood that killed ten of the children, or perhaps they died from different causes spread out between the 1820 census where Abiel and Lydia and the eleven youngest children all appear (Matthew already being married to Hannah on their own census sheet), and the 1830 census, where only Abiel, Lydia and Christian are present. There are no Heidt marriage records from the 1820's or 1830's that we can find that would account for the whereabouts of the other ten children. It is most likely that these other ten children of Abiel and Lydia died before marrying or having children, because Georgia has such complete and detailed census and marriage records, and there is no family or church records of any kind relating to any other siblings of Matthew Heidt and Christian Heidt, besides each other.
